Financial Assistance

Financial assistance is a discount program that lowers what you owe on a hospital bill. Hospitals may call it charity care or a community program. Federal law requires nonprofit hospitals to offer one. Many people qualify and never find out.

These programs usually apply to emergency care and care you needed for your health, based on your income and household size. Each hospital runs its own program with its own rules.

Every hospital sets its own rules, usually based on income and household size. We cannot promise you qualify, but we can find out, and checking costs nothing. Having health insurance does not automatically rule you out.

We work directly with your employer or health plan provider. We do the paperwork so you don’t have to.

1. We check the hospital’s program. Every hospital’s rules are different. We find the right one and read the fine print.
2. We complete the application with you. We fill it out and help gather the documents it asks for.
3. We confirm approval. We submit it, stay on the hospital until there is an answer, and tell you what they decide.

Two things: answer when we reach out, and send what we ask for as quickly as you can. Applications have deadlines, and most delays happen when paperwork sits. If we call or write, it is because something needs you.

Yes. Any hospital that offers a program must let you apply directly, and the billing office can give you the application. If Highlight Health works with your health plan, you do not have to do it alone. We handle it for you.
