Trilliant Health Uncovers the Hidden Truth Behind Healthcare Price Transparency
Data analytics firm Trilliant Health recently released a study regarding the wide variability of healthcare costs across the United States. It may contain shocking revelations for the common reader. However, the unreasonable and largely volatile prices – which the study notes have little to no correlation to the quality of care rendered – are nothing new for many insiders who routinely interact with the healthcare pricing and payment ecosystem. Read the report here.
A USA Today column on the report noted that a total knee replacement can cost anywhere from $12,870 to $101,527, while an ankle replacement can cost anywhere from $22,011 to more than $197,000. Trilliant’s analysis also revealed that higher cost is not necessarily an indicator of higher quality healthcare. Unjustifiably high prices for medical procedures contribute significantly to the nation’s rising healthcare costs.
Trilliant compiled the data using federally mandated machine readable files (MRFs) specific to two of the nation’s largest insurers.
Highlight Health has expertise in analyzing healthcare transparency MRFs on behalf of self-funded plan sponsors. These files provide unprecedented access to price validation.
